Private Salt Mine Tour from Salzburg

Austria's Historic Salt Mines Tour from Salzburg - salzburg toptours - SALZBURG GUID EUGENE

The name Salzburg reminds us of the time when salt was as precious as gold. Let me invite you to an exciting trip to the oldest salt mine in the world. The drive from Salzburg to the Bad Dürrnberg Salt Mine takes about 45 minutes. Upon arrival, visitors are given special costumes to wear over their clothes. The group is then taken by narrow-gauge railway to the old tunnels.

During the tour, visitors experience a variety of activities, such as sliding down the tunnels and crossing an underground lake by ferry; in mini-cinemas, short films are shown about the origin of salt in the Alps and how the archbishops made Salzburg one of the wealthiest principalities in Europe through the salt trade.

The underground tour lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes. The temperature in the mine is +10 degrees Celsius all year round.

The salt mine tour is a perfect mix of fun and education for adults and children. It can be perfectly combined with many other attractions in the area, such as the Eagle's Nest, Berchtesgaden, Lake Königssee, or other recommended sites.

Children must be at least four years old to participate in the tour. Some of the tunnels are quite narrow, and if you're claustrophobic or afraid of dark places, you should consider whether it's worth going down there.

FAQ
How can I book your tour?
Send me your enquiry on my email or use the contact form with the following information: Tour date - Tour name - Number of people - Meeting point.
I will get back to you with first hand information and price.
How much does your service cost?
Estimated prices are: Salzburg Walking Tours 180 - 300 Euro, Half-day tours in Salzburg and the suburbs in my minibus cost 350 - 450 Euro, Full-day tours 650 - 850 Euro, depending on distance and program.
How many people can fit in your minivan? Can our baby sit on our lap?
My minivan can accommodate up to eight people. Children may not sit on a parent's lap. Child boosters are available at no additional charge.
What does your service include?
Qualified guide service in/to/from Salzburg (Professional Austria Guide since 2006). Planning of a tour according to your wishes. Transportation in a Volkswagen Caravelle T6 minivan for up to eight passengers. No extra costs for tolls and parking.
What is not included in your tours?
Entrance fees, accommodations, meals and drinks.
What are the payment methods?
Bank transfer for companies, PayPal or cash for individuals.
Is it possible to hire you just as a driver?
Yes, but it will not affect the price. I am a tour guide with extensive knowledge and high qualifications. Therefore, my time costs more than a regular taxi.
We drive our own car. Can we hire you as a guide only?
Yes, you can, but I wouldn't recommend it. When I drive my van, I know where to go, where to slow down, where to stop, and I can explain without having to focus on showing the way. Plus, my van is roomy with great visibility from the sedan. The price will not make a big difference either.
If we are just a couple of people and don't need a minivan, can you give us a tour in a smaller car?
No, I'm a one-man entrepreneur with one car, and it's a Volkswagen Caravelle T6 minivan.
There are more than eight of us. Can you help us book a bigger bus?
As the bus companies need a lot of details to calculate the cost and a deposit as a guarantee, it is too time consuming for me, and I prefer not to get involved in booking tourist buses. However, I can provide you with information about transportation companies. Or I can organize a second minibus with a professional guide.
Can we hire you for a few days?
Yes, I offer multi-day programs too.
Can you give us a tour of just the town of Hallstatt?
No. I don't offer tours just of Hallstatt. I offer full day tours from Salzburg to the lake district including Hallstatt or full day tours focusing on the Hallstatt region.
Can you give us a half-day tour from Salzburg to Hallstatt?
Yes, I can. But keep in mind that a half day is 4 hours. The way from Salzburg to Hallstatt and back takes 3 hours. Would you be happy to spend 3 hours in the car for only 1 hour in the place you want to go? Hallstatt is one of many picturesque towns in the Salzkammergut Lake District. Instead of fixating on Hallstatt, I suggest you add other beautiful towns and lakes where you can discover the real Austria and not just the touristic side of it.
Can we join a group tour with you?
No, I don't group individual travelers. As a one-person company, it's not possible.
Could you be our photographer on tour?
Yes, I enjoy photography and offer my services as a guide and photographer for an additional fee, but not much more. I use my own camera.
